Q: What is a mineral sunscreen?

Dr. Desai: A mineral sunscreen, or a physical sunscreen, is made of either Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide. These products sit on the top layer of the skin and reflect harmful UV rays, acting as a barrier between your delicate skin and the damaging effects of the sun. Mineral sunscreens are safe for everyone, even children!

Q: How much sunscreen should you apply?

Dr. Desai: “I like to recommend the “3 Finger Method” when applying sunscreen. This means you disperse enough sunscreen to cover 3 fingers. Then you apply that amount to your face and your neck. Be sure to blend thoroughly. I love Luxury Sun Ritual because it doesn’t leave a white-cast like a lot of mineral sunscreens. Q: How often should you reapply sunscreen?

Dr. Desai: Regardless of if you are wearing a mineral or a chemical sunscreen, you need to reapply your sunscreen every 2-3 hours if you are out in the sun, right after swimming and if you are exercising and sweating, especially.
