FROM PETAL TO SHELF - OUR COMMITMENT TO CLEAN AND SUSTAINABLE INGREDIENTS

The term “clean beauty” gets thrown around a lot in our industry, but what does it actually mean? Clean beauty products are supposed to be made without ingredients shown or suspected to harm human health or the environment. The truth is, however, that government regulations in the United States regarding clean products have not caught up with those in Europe and other parts of the world. Companies are relatively free to define their own version of “clean”, which makes it all the more important that you do your own research about which products you’re bringing into your home and using on your skin.

At SAINT JANE, we have always been committed to formulating our products with clean, sacred botanicals that empower your skin. We embrace ancient ingredients and the benefits they hold, while understanding that we have a responsibility to do so sustainably. We acknowledge the ancient practices and cultures that have been using our ingredients for centuries, while taking the opportunity to modernize them in a responsible way. SAINT JANE’s formulas embody this unique collaboration between time-honored practices and traditions and modern green technology. The result is sustainably cultivated and performance-driven skincare products that nourish the skin and the soul.

When sourcing our ingredients, we employ a “glocal” approach. We partner with companies and farmers around the world to support their diverse cultures and empower their rich traditions in a modern and sustainable way with environmentally sound practices. Below are just few examples of how we source our ingredients:

  • Hibiscus: We work with a family owned and operated Hibiscus farm in Hawaii. These beautiful flowers are antioxidant rich thanks to the volcanic rich soil indigenous to the Islands. The Hibiscus are cultivated by hand to ensure efficacy.

  • Prickly Pear Oil: Native to Morocco, Prickly Pear has been revered by locals for centuries. Our oil is produced by a local company that has been in business for generations. Our partnership with this small, family operated company supports and sustains the community at large by providing jobs to thousands of people and helping to protect the land from industrial farming.

  • Yeast Extract: We chose to formulate our award-winning Hydrating Petal Cream with Yeast Extract as a sustainable way of eliminating animal collagen as an ingredient while still reaping the benefits of collagen for skin.

  • Fermented Algae: We’ve collaborated with an innovative French company which has discovered multiple ways of growing and harvesting sea algae in the open sea inside a private and protected sea farm where they cultivate algae - the flowers of the sea" on submerged systems to guarantee the perpetuation of the species.

In addition to thoughtfully curating our sourcing partners, we are also committed to transparency. We provide a detailed list of all ingredients used in each of our products on our website, as well as 3rd party lab testing results so you can be sure of the safety and efficacy of our products when choosing to incorporate them into your skincare routine.

Bold Botanicals: Kakadu Plum, Sacred Superfruit and Unexpected Source of Vitamin C

With small, creamy white flowers in long spikes clustered towards the tips of the branches, the Kakadu Plum is an extraordinary botanical and superfruit originating from the wilds of Australia. Aboriginal people have valued this sacred plant for thousands of years for its nutrient-rich and medicinal properties, even using the red bark of the tree to heal skin conditions.

It wasn’t until the 1980’s that western scientists discovered just how extraordinary this fruit really is. They found phenomenally high Vitamin C concentrations in Kakadu plums. Traditional fruits like oranges and lemons are well known for being natural sources of Vitamin C, but the Kakadu Plum has the highest recorded concentration of Vitamin C in the world, measuring at 100 times that of an orange.

Natural contents in the plum are also rich in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Research has even shown its extract has excellent preservative qualities. With these powerful benefits, this superfruit ingredient is a dream for infusing into your clean beauty routine.

When we were developing The C-Drops, infusing Kakadu Plum as one of our sustainably sourced, hero ingredients was the answer to harnessing the power of this superfruit to benefit the skin. Grown free from human intervention, this beautiful, wildcrafted ingredient thrives in its harsh growing conditions, developing a highly efficient defense mechanism made up of diverse antioxidants. These antioxidants help to detoxify the skin and fight off free radical damage caused by environmental factors.

Kakadu Plum works to restore the skin’s natural barrier and encourages skin elasticity and suppleness which is ideal for balancing the complexion. Perfect for acne prone or oily skin, while its deeply soothing qualities can calm sensitive skin.

Our favorite way to incorporate Kakadu Plum into your skincare routine is through a targeted serum like The C-Drops. Rich in Kakadu Plum, citrus botanicals like lemon, lime and mandarin work to visibly smooth skin textures, brighten dullness and leave a radiance you only get with high concentrations of Vitamin C.

Get the full benefits of this rich ingredient in your morning skincare routine, and be sure to follow with a good sunscreen to add another layer of protection for your skin.
