FROM PETAL TO SHELF - OUR COMMITMENT TO CLEAN AND SUSTAINABLE INGREDIENTS
The term “clean beauty” gets thrown around a lot in our industry, but what does it actually mean? Clean beauty products are supposed to be made without ingredients shown or suspected to harm human health or the environment. The truth is, however, that government regulations in the United States regarding clean products have not caught up with those in Europe and other parts of the world. Companies are relatively free to define their own version of “clean”, which makes it all the more important that you do your own research about which products you’re bringing into your home and using on your skin.
At SAINT JANE, we have always been committed to formulating our products with clean, sacred botanicals that empower your skin. We embrace ancient ingredients and the benefits they hold, while understanding that we have a responsibility to do so sustainably. We acknowledge the ancient practices and cultures that have been using our ingredients for centuries, while taking the opportunity to modernize them in a responsible way. SAINT JANE’s formulas embody this unique collaboration between time-honored practices and traditions and modern green technology. The result is sustainably cultivated and performance-driven skincare products that nourish the skin and the soul.
When sourcing our ingredients, we employ a “glocal” approach. We partner with companies and farmers around the world to support their diverse cultures and empower their rich traditions in a modern and sustainable way with environmentally sound practices. Below are just few examples of how we source our ingredients:
- Hibiscus: We work with a family owned and operated Hibiscus farm in Hawaii. These beautiful flowers are antioxidant rich thanks to the volcanic rich soil indigenous to the Islands. The Hibiscus are cultivated by hand to ensure efficacy.
- Prickly Pear Oil: Native to Morocco, Prickly Pear has been revered by locals for centuries. Our oil is produced by a local company that has been in business for generations. Our partnership with this small, family operated company supports and sustains the community at large by providing jobs to thousands of people and helping to protect the land from industrial farming.
- Yeast Extract: We chose to formulate our award-winning Hydrating Petal Cream with Yeast Extract as a sustainable way of eliminating animal collagen as an ingredient while still reaping the benefits of collagen for skin.
- Fermented Algae: We’ve collaborated with an innovative French company which has discovered multiple ways of growing and harvesting sea algae in the open sea inside a private and protected sea farm where they cultivate algae - the flowers of the sea" on submerged systems to guarantee the perpetuation of the species.
In addition to thoughtfully curating our sourcing partners, we are also committed to transparency. We provide a detailed list of all ingredients used in each of our products on our website, as well as 3rd party lab testing results so you can be sure of the safety and efficacy of our products when choosing to incorporate them into your skincare routine.
