Morning Ritual

Step 1 - Serum

As a general layering rule of thumb, you should start with the thinnest in product texture and work your way up to the heaviest. For SAINT JANE, we have two beautiful serums to choose from that target specific skin concerns for the first layer of your routine:

Step 2 - Moisturize

We get asked this all the time...is Luxury Beauty Serum a facial oil or a serum? We have an answer but first let’s start with the difference between a serum and a facial oil. If you find yourself unable to tell the difference, you aren’t alone. The term “serum” has become a general skincare category for any kind of treatment that targets various skin concerns with formulas that vary in texture.

A serum is traditionally a super concentrated, lightweight product that is applied after cleansing/toning but before moisturizer. Because of their fluid or gel-like textures, they absorb easily into the skin to powerfully target skin concerns with concentrated active ingredients. Serums can be formulated to boost hydration, brighten, detoxify, fight signs of aging and so much more. 

When it comes to facial oils, they are quite a bit different from serums. Oils are richer in texture, and act as an emollient moisturizer. Because of their impenetrable properties, they are designed to seal in moisture as a final step in your skincare routine after serums and moisturizers. Moisture escapes our skin so easily because of both environmental and genetic factors, so the use of a rich facial oil can protect your skin barrier and prevent moisture loss.

When we were developing this product, we wanted it to be truly multi-purpose and act as both a serum and facial oil (and moisturizer too!). In World War I, battlefield doctors would hydrate dried Calendula flowers and apply the mixture to soldiers’ wounds to prevent infection.
