LUXURY ACTIVE FLORALS: PINK LOTUS

If you’ve tried our award-winning Hydrating Petal Cream, you know that we formulated this featherweight cream with 10 floral essences, each with their own specific benefits for skin. One of the most historically symbolic of these Luxury Active Florals is the Pink Lotus flower.

Of all the florals in our meticulously-clean formulas, the Lotus has perhaps one of the richest histories. It was revered as a symbol of purity and tranquility in several cultures. To the ancient Egyptians, it was a symbol of rebirth due to the way the flower recedes into the water at night and re-blooms fresh every morning. In Hinduism and Buddhism, the Lotus is a symbol of purity, renewal, and enlightenment. The color of the flower is also significant in Buddhist teachings, with pink being considered the ‘true lotus’ of Buddha.

The benefits of Pink Lotus in skincare are not dissimilar to the reasons it was beloved by ancient civilizations. A powerful antioxidant with anti-aging capabilities, the sacred flower is a natural fit in Hydrating Petal CreamThe lotus contains a potent amount of polyphenols and flavonoids, including Kaempferol, which is known to have the highest antioxidant level amongst 35 types of flavonoids. These help protect against free radical damage, which is a leading cause of visible premature aging. An additional benefit to preventing damage from environmental factors is that in doing so collagen and elastin production are protected, which enables the skin to remain youthful for longer.

Lotus is also a rich natural source of Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids, which gently resurface skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. By removing dead surface cells, newer, brighter skin is allowed to shine through. While the AHA content may sound unappealing to those with sensitive skin, the flower also contains many soothing properties to counteract any irritation caused by the AHAs. Lotus is a natural anti-inflammatory, which soothes redness and stressed skin. It also replenishes moisture and is naturally healing, it is even frequently used in natural medicine for wound healing.

Finally, Lotus is oil-balancing and purifying due to its ability to absorb toxins from skin and clear the complexion. It helps control sebum production without stripping skin of its natural moisture, meaning its safe to use for those with oily or acne-prone skin.

FROM PETAL TO SHELF - OUR COMMITMENT TO CLEAN AND SUSTAINABLE INGREDIENTS

The term “clean beauty” gets thrown around a lot in our industry, but what does it actually mean? Clean beauty products are supposed to be made without ingredients shown or suspected to harm human health or the environment. The truth is, however, that government regulations in the United States regarding clean products have not caught up with those in Europe and other parts of the world. Companies are relatively free to define their own version of “clean”, which makes it all the more important that you do your own research about which products you’re bringing into your home and using on your skin.

At SAINT JANE, we have always been committed to formulating our products with clean, sacred botanicals that empower your skin. We embrace ancient ingredients and the benefits they hold, while understanding that we have a responsibility to do so sustainably. We acknowledge the ancient practices and cultures that have been using our ingredients for centuries, while taking the opportunity to modernize them in a responsible way. SAINT JANE’s formulas embody this unique collaboration between time-honored practices and traditions and modern green technology. The result is sustainably cultivated and performance-driven skincare products that nourish the skin and the soul.

When sourcing our ingredients, we employ a “glocal” approach. We partner with companies and farmers around the world to support their diverse cultures and empower their rich traditions in a modern and sustainable way with environmentally sound practices. Below are just few examples of how we source our ingredients:

  • Hibiscus: We work with a family owned and operated Hibiscus farm in Hawaii. These beautiful flowers are antioxidant rich thanks to the volcanic rich soil indigenous to the Islands. The Hibiscus are cultivated by hand to ensure efficacy.

  • Prickly Pear Oil: Native to Morocco, Prickly Pear has been revered by locals for centuries. Our oil is produced by a local company that has been in business for generations. Our partnership with this small, family operated company supports and sustains the community at large by providing jobs to thousands of people and helping to protect the land from industrial farming.

  • Yeast Extract: We chose to formulate our award-winning Hydrating Petal Cream with Yeast Extract as a sustainable way of eliminating animal collagen as an ingredient while still reaping the benefits of collagen for skin.

  • Fermented Algae: We’ve collaborated with an innovative French company which has discovered multiple ways of growing and harvesting sea algae in the open sea inside a private and protected sea farm where they cultivate algae - the flowers of the sea" on submerged systems to guarantee the perpetuation of the species.

In addition to thoughtfully curating our sourcing partners, we are also committed to transparency. We provide a detailed list of all ingredients used in each of our products on our website, as well as 3rd party lab testing results so you can be sure of the safety and efficacy of our products when choosing to incorporate them into your skincare routine.

BLOOM AND BRIGHTEN

Luxury Active Florals are at the heart of every SAINT JANE formula. We use dozens of different flowers and botanicals across all our products, each with their own unique benefits for skin.

With the launch of our new Resurfacers bundle, which features our award-winning Luxury Body Serum and The C-Drops bundled together for the first time with exclusive savings, we wanted to highlight a few of our favorite renewing flowers in those formulas.

Among the 28 omega-rich botanicals and exfoliating fruit acids in Luxury Body Serum is Damascus Rose flower oil. Known also as the Damask Rose and the Rose of Castile, the Damascus Rose is beloved for its heavenly scent. Its benefits are not just superficial, however, the oil is a coveted skincare ingredient because of its ability to renew and purify skin. A natural astringent and anti-microbial, Damascus Rose oil not only helps treat but also prevent breakouts. It also has the ability to speed wound healing, decrease hyperpigmentation, and promote a more even skin tone.

Jasmine flower oil is another floral most-famous for its scent. However, like the Damascus Rose, Jasmine contains many hidden benefits for skin. We included Jasmine in Luxury Body Serum because of its ultra-hydrating properties. It has the ability to soothe and heal dry, irritated skin in even the harshest conditions. It has even been known to aid those suffering from skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. As an added bonus, it helps promote collagen production for plump, hydrated skin!

You already know our cult-favorite The C-Drops contains a 20% Vitamin C blend, but did you know it contains 5 different types of exfoliating citrus fruit oils to help you achieve our signature glow? Orange Peel Oil is known for its ability to improve skin’s overall texture by promoting clarity and smoothness. It gently resurfaces to buff away dull, dead skin cells and reveal radiant skin. As an added bonus, it also helps promote good circulation and blood flow.

One of the reasons we are able to pack such a potent Vitamin C blend into The C-Drops is our inclusion of 500mg of full flower hemp extract.  Full flower hemp extract is famous for its anti-inflammatory capabilities. Its ability to calm breakouts, soothe irritation, and reduce redness have made it one of the most talked about skincare ingredients in recent years. We love it because it allows us to pack so many clean actives into our products that work to renew your skin without irritation and other side effects!

SACRED BOTANICALS: FRANKINCENSE

You’ve most likely heard of Frankincense because it is said to be one of the three gifts presented at the birth of Jesus, but what exactly is Frankincense? A staple in Ayurveda and Ancient Chinese Medicine, Frankincense is an aromatic resin obtained from the trunks of the Boswellia tree. The aromatic sap was traditionally burned as incense and was said to ward off evil spirits and serpents. Native to what is now modern-day Oman, Frankincense became the most lucrative trade in the world until A.D. 400 and made southern Arabia the richest region of the world at the time.

The ancient Egyptians were among the largest consumers of Frankincense, with Queen Hatshepsut organizing the largest trading expedition in the country’s history at the time to open more trade routes and provide better access to the sacred resin. The Egyptians used Frankincense for everything from wound treatments to eyeliner, and unsurprisingly Cleopatra was one of the first to use it as a skin treatment.

The wound healing properties of Frankincense translate well into skincare. It’s a natural astringent that is renowned for its ability to balance both oily and dry skin. Not only does it help fight and prevent breakouts, but its ability also to promote natural cell regeneration enables it to reduce dark spots, scarring, and other forms of hyperpigmentation. By increasing cell turnover, skin’s radiance is also improved due to old cells being gently exfoliated away and newer, healthier cells shining through.

Frankincense is also a powerful skin protectant known to strengthen skin’s natural barrier and provide a tightening effect. This ability to improve skin’s elasticity makes it a coveted ingredient among those looking for natural anti-aging ingredients.

Finally, its potent anti-inflammatory properties make Frankincense a particularly desirable skincare ingredient this time of year when dry, irritated skin is common. Its calming abilities help improve the overall appearance of skin by reducing redness and other visible signs of distress.

It’s no wonder we included Frankincense among the 20+ luxury active florals in our cult-favorite Luxury Beauty Serum.

CENTURIES OF HEALING IN ONE BOTTLE: INSIDE LUXURY BEAUTY SERUM

If you love SAINT JANE, chances are you love our holy grail Luxury Beauty Serum. Its award-winning formula is filled with over 20 luxury floral actives beloved for centuries by ancient civilizations for their skin nourishing results. Each flower brings its own unique benefit to the table, and quite honestly many of them could be a full skincare routine in their own right. Combined, they create our cult-favorite Luxury Beauty Serum. We don’t mean to brag, but it has been called "the face oil to end all face oils". Just saying.

While we could literally write novels on each of these gorgeous flowers and why we chose them, today we simply want to highlight a few of our favorites and the benefits they have in store for your skin.

  1. Helichrysum: Dubbed “immortelle” by the French for its powerhouse anti-aging properties, Helichrysum was once presented as an offering to the gods in ancient Greece. It was also used as a topical anti-septic. These healing properties make it a wonderful addition to skincare products because it helps activate repair and cell turnover, plus stimulates collagen production for more youthful looking skin.

  1. Calendula: As one of the most effective, natural anti-inflammatory ingredients out there, Calendula more than earns its place amongst skincare superheros. It known for its ability to soothe and calm irritated skin from conditions such as eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, etc. Its rich supply of essential fatty acids make it highly nourishing for dry skin. These skin healing properties led Civil War era doctors to use it as a wound treatment for soldiers.

  1. Sunflower: Not just another pretty summer flower! Sunflower is a natural skin protectant able to be used on the most sensitive of skin. It contains high concentrations of Vitamin E and Linoleic Acid, both powerful protectants that help support and maintain skin’s natural barrier. Historically, it was used to care for the delicate skin of premature babies.

  1. Rosehip: Historically, Rosehip has been used for centuries to treat a variety of issues. It has been used as everything from perfumes and food flavoring to treatments for muscle cramps and scurvy prevention. It was used by the Egyptians, Romans, and Mayans for its incredible healing abilities. We love it for skin thanks to its high concentrations of antioxidants and its ability to stimulate both collagen and elastin production.

Can you believe that this list does not even scratch the surface of the many luxurious botanicals found in Luxury Beauty Serum?  Our floral infused products are filled with so many meticulously clean ingredients steeped in history that we can't wait to share more. Make sure to follow us for further details on the many exquisite florals we curate for our award -winning formulas.

SACRED BOTANICALS: POMEGRANATE

Our award-winning Luxury Beauty Serum contains over 20 clean, hardworking botanicals. Each of them brings their own list of benefits to the table, and Pomegranate is no exception. In fact, the list of potential benefits that pomegranate holds for skin is so long, it definitely earns its super-ingredient title.

As one of the world’s most ancient fruits, pomegranates have a rich history across many ancient civilizations. In early Jewish culture, the fruit was considered a symbol of sanctity and abundance. In China, it was a symbol of fertility, with Buddha often depicted holding a pomegranate to represent an abundance of sons. In ancient Greek culture, it became a symbol of rejuvenation and eternal life due to its association with Persephone, the goddess of spring. Given what we know now about the detoxifying and anti-aging properties of pomegranates, it is not surprising that the fruit was revered by so many ancient peoples.

Pomegranate is often lauded for its antioxidant properties, and for good reason. It contains approximately 48% of the daily recommended dose of Vitamin C, a skincare hero-ingredient by any standards, as well as other antioxidants such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and tannins. The high dose of antioxidants helps fight free radical damage and even protect against future damage. It also empowers cell regeneration and healing, which makes it an effective treatment for sunspots and hyperpigmentation.

If you’re like us, anti-aging benefits are one of the first properties we look for in our skincare ingredients. Pomegranate does not disappoint in this area. Studies have shown that pomegranate seed oil may help improve cell turnover and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also known to promote smooth, firm skin by empowering collagen and elastin production – two key ingredients for a more youthful complexion. It also not only stimulates new collagen production, but helps protect the collagen you already have, leading to even more anti-aging power.

Finally, pomegranate is rich in fatty acids and deeply hydrating due to its ability to penetrate to the deepest layers of skin. It is particularly effective in the winter months, as it helps prevent moisture loss to fight dry, irritated skin. However, those who suffer from acne-prone skin need not worry, pomegranate will not clog pores and even contains anti-microbial properties to help prevent future breakouts. It’s also an anti-inflammatory, which helps calm existing breakouts and soothes red, irritated skin. By reducing inflammation, circulation is improved which supercharges skin’s ability to heal and regenerate itself.

SACRED BOTANICALS: ROSEHIP

We’re proud of all the clean, sacred botanicals we use in our formulas, but Rosehip tops out at one of our favorites. Beloved for centuries by the ancient Egyptians, Mayans, and Romans for its healing powers, Rosehip is now beloved by us for its numerous skin benefits – which range from being ultra-hydrating to anti-aging. We’ve included it as a key ingredient in our award-winning Luxury Beauty Serum for this reason.

First things first, what is a Rosehip? Rosehips are seed-filled pods located under the petals at the base of the various species of roses. The potential skin benefits from this tiny seed pod are seemingly endless. As a rich natural source of omega fatty acids and Vitamins A, C, and D, Rosehip oil has the ability to hydrate, brighten, resurface, and renew.

Rosehip is typically found in skincare in the form of an ultra-hydrating oil, but don’t let the ‘oil’ part throw you off! Though the oil has a thick consistency, it penetrates skin easily and leaves no oily residue on the surface. This unique ingredient also has astringent properties so it actually absorbs excess oil around it, which makes it a friendly ingredient for those with acne-prone skin.

Vitamin A – otherwise known as retinol – is a coveted ingredient in any skincare routine. Rosehip oil’s natural store of Vitamin A gently resurfaces skin and helps fade dark spots, scarring, and other forms of hyperpigmentation. The resurfacing action also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a more even, radiant complexion. Meanwhile, the antioxidant capabilities of Vitamin C work to visibly brighten skin and fight free radical damage to reveal your most glowing skin yet!

Rosehip is best known as an anti-aging powerhouse because of its ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin, essential proteins for overall skin health, fade with environmental stress and age. Rosehip oil is rich in both Vitamins A and C, which are essential for collagen production. Not only does it boost collagen production in the skin, it has also been shown to inhibit the creation of MMP-1, the enzyme that helps break down collagen in the body. Rosehip also stimulates elastin production and encourages cell regeneration and renewal, which allows for firmer, more youthful skin.

THE ULTIMATE SAINT JANE FACIAL

Facial smoothing stones have become all the rage with aestheticians and influencers alike. In fact, you’ve probably seen them floating around your Instagram or TikTok feeds on more than one occasion. Users swear by their ability to depuff and contour the face, but you’re certainly not alone if you’ve ever looked at one and thought, “How the heck am I supposed to use this?”. Not to worry – we’ll guide you through the step-by-step process using our Obsidian Smoothing Stone coupled with Luxury Beauty Serum and Hydrating Petal Cream for the ultimate SAINT JANE facial!

Step 1 – Prep

On a freshly cleansed face, apply one full dropper of Luxury Beauty Serum. The omega-rich formula not only delivers a boost of nutrients, the oil also helps saturate the skin to ensure the best canvas for the Obsidian Smoothing Stone. The anti-inflammatory properties in the serum augments the depuffing power of the stone for your most radiant results.

Step 2 – Smooth

Using the below diagram as a guide, glide the Obsidian Smoothing Stone across your face in the directions shown using sweeping, fluid motions. Pressure, as well as direction, is important. Pressing too hard will not increase the effectiveness of the tool, instead you should think of pulling rather than pushing on the skin. Gliding the stone across your face in this manner promotes better blood circulation which in turn helps to depuff.

Start at the base of the neck and follow the arrows in upward motions as shown. Repeat each stroke 5-10 times for optimal results. Make sure to sweep the stone all the way to the outer edges of your face with each stroke.

Step 3 – Lock In The Results

As a finishing step, we love to apply Hydrating Petal Cream to lock in the benefits from steps 1 and 2. The 1% pure hyaluronic acid formula delivers hydration for plump, glowing skin while floral essences like Magnolia soften and smooth. Hibiscus seed peptides, dubbed “Nature’s Botox”, promote elastin production for firm, contoured skin.

SACRED BOTANICALS: SEA BUCKTHORN

When you think of beloved natural skincare ingredients, Sea Buckthorn probably isn’t the first one to come to mind. It’s one of those ingredients that frequently flies under the radar, but is sneakily powerful. We’re here to pull back the curtain on one of nature’s most effective botanicals, and a key ingredient in our cult-favorite Luxury Beauty Serum.

Sea Buckthorn oil is one of those ingredients that has so many benefits, you almost start to feel like it could be an entire skincare routine all on its own. It is perhaps most famous for its anti-aging capabilities (we know we have your attention now). Not only does it help repair oxidative damage, it also promotes collagen production, which we all know is an essential component of a youthful complexion. The additional collagen plumps the skin to help smooth out fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.

While you may not have heard of Sea Buckthorn, you’ve probably heard of a little antioxidant called Vitamin C. Vitamin C is one of the most coveted skincare ingredients out there, with benefits ranging from the ability to neutralize free radicals to fade dark spots through gentle resurfacing. Yes, we all need a little Vitamin C (or a lot) in our routines, and Sea Buckthorn has 10x more Vitamin C than an orange, making it one of the most potent natural sources available. It’s also one of the only oils to contain all four types of omega fatty acids. It is deeply hydrating and repairs skin’s natural barrier, making it a phenomenal skincare component for those suffering from inflammatory conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Don’t think that Sea Buckthorn is just for those with dry skin, though! For those with oily or acne-prone skin, Sea Buckthorn is an unexpectedly effective ingredient to add to your skincare arsenal. Its inflammation-fighting abilities calm existing breakouts while simultaneously helping to prevent future flare ups by controlling excess sebum production. As if that weren’t enough, the omega-rich oil helps fade acne scars for overall clearer skin.

At SAINT JANE, sourcing meticulously clean, effective ingredients is a pillar of our brand. The Sea Buckthorn oil used in Luxury Beauty Serum is sourced sustainably from Lithuania, so you know you’re getting the most effective form of this super botanical.
