LUXURY ACTIVE FLORALS: PINK LOTUS
If you’ve tried our award-winning Hydrating Petal Cream, you know that we formulated this featherweight cream with 10 floral essences, each with their own specific benefits for skin. One of the most historically symbolic of these Luxury Active Florals is the Pink Lotus flower.
Of all the florals in our meticulously-clean formulas, the Lotus has perhaps one of the richest histories. It was revered as a symbol of purity and tranquility in several cultures. To the ancient Egyptians, it was a symbol of rebirth due to the way the flower recedes into the water at night and re-blooms fresh every morning. In Hinduism and Buddhism, the Lotus is a symbol of purity, renewal, and enlightenment. The color of the flower is also significant in Buddhist teachings, with pink being considered the ‘true lotus’ of Buddha.
The benefits of Pink Lotus in skincare are not dissimilar to the reasons it was beloved by ancient civilizations. A powerful antioxidant with anti-aging capabilities, the sacred flower is a natural fit in Hydrating Petal Cream. The lotus contains a potent amount of polyphenols and flavonoids, including Kaempferol, which is known to have the highest antioxidant level amongst 35 types of flavonoids. These help protect against free radical damage, which is a leading cause of visible premature aging. An additional benefit to preventing damage from environmental factors is that in doing so collagen and elastin production are protected, which enables the skin to remain youthful for longer.
Lotus is also a rich natural source of Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids, which gently resurface skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. By removing dead surface cells, newer, brighter skin is allowed to shine through. While the AHA content may sound unappealing to those with sensitive skin, the flower also contains many soothing properties to counteract any irritation caused by the AHAs. Lotus is a natural anti-inflammatory, which soothes redness and stressed skin. It also replenishes moisture and is naturally healing, it is even frequently used in natural medicine for wound healing.
Finally, Lotus is oil-balancing and purifying due to its ability to absorb toxins from skin and clear the complexion. It helps control sebum production without stripping skin of its natural moisture, meaning its safe to use for those with oily or acne-prone skin.
